There are few actors in the industry that have a resume like Bruce Campbell. Throughout his career he has starred in some of the most unique films ever. One of my personal favorites and the most interesting is the 2002 horror comedy Bubba Ho-Tep directed by Phantasm director Don Coscarelli. Now Shout Factory is bringing it home to 4K for the first time in a special Collector’s Edition.

Bubba Ho-Tep follows the "true" story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death", then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack, a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds.

This film is so ridiculously brilliant that it works to perfection. Bruce Campbell brings his usual charm and swagger to the role and fully captures his version of Elvis like only he can. The always great Ossie Davis brings his own magic to his character and the two are great together. There is so much silliness here that you cannot help but be entertained by it all. As goofy as this film is it still offers up some great fun action and all the one liner’s you can handle from beginning to end.

If you have never seen this film then you are doing yourself an injustice. It is far from a full-on horror film, but offers up aspects of it along with the laughs to keep everyone entertained. I was holding out hope we would eventually get the rumored sequel Bubba Nosferatu, but alas that never

happened, but at least we get this awesome new hi-def version of the classic original.

In addition to the film this release also includes commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes, trailers, photo gallery, a music video and a slew of featurettes that take you behind this classic horror comedy and so much more. As if the film itself isn’t enough of a reason to get a copy fans can get an exclusive poster of the brand new artwork while supplies last.
