Netflix debuts Featurette for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Like most I am a huge fan of Jim Henson’s 1982 masterpiece The Dark Crystal. I remember seeing it a couple of times in the theater and in awe of what was on the screen. For years there have been talks of returning to this magical world for years but didn’t look like it was going to ever happen. Thankfully it is finally coming together with a behind the scenes look at the next chapter: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance that debuted earlier this year.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
With the 40th anniversary of the classic original here Netflix has given fans another treat announcing the impressive cast to the new entry that includes Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel who will be voicing the new Gelflings Rian, Brea and Deet respectively. Other voice cast bringing the rest of the Gelflings to life include Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and
Alicia Vikander. This was epic enough but the cast making up the Skeksis & Mystics, is just as great including Harvey Fierstein, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg and Mark Hamill!
While waiting for the series to hit Netflix on August 30th, they have given us even more to be excited about with the announcement of more cast including : Lena Headey as Maudra Fara, Benedict Wong as The General, Awkwafina as The Collector, Sigourney Weaver as The Myth-Speaker, Hannah John-Kamen as Naia, and Dave Goelz as Baffi, a Fizgig.
