In 2018 I started seeing things about a new film that looked like the return of Charles Bronson, but sadly he passed away in 2003 so unless this was some sort of long lost film that just wasn’t possible. Enter Hungarian actor Robert Bronzi who is a spitting image for Bronson and has now kick started his own action film career. Hist latest film, Escape From Death Block 13 co-stars Nicholas Turturro, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Chris Hahn, Debbie Scaletta, Lyindaa Russell, Tim Lovelace, Beau Roberts, Justin Hawkins, David Greathouse, Richard Napoli, Leo McNamee, Mickey Scodova, Kenny H. Hendrix, Jacob Southwick, Jimmy Lee, and Bryan Jones written and directed by Gary Jones.

Escape From Death Block 13 follows Mick Kovacs who travels to America to seek justice after the death of his brother. Framed for attempted murder, he is sent to the notorious Pleasant Hill Penitentiary where survival is an everyday struggle. Seeking revenge after discovering the truth behind his brother’s death, Mick’s rage ignites an explosive riot as he makes a daring escape.

Right out of the gate I can tell you this is not a good movie, but instead a so bad its good genre flick. Imagine the low budget SyFy channel movies featuring varying large animals and their effects and you have this one, but in the straight up action world. Bronzi has the look and stoic look of an action star to lead these kinds of films, but the dialogue is a bit of a stretch. A lot is due to his accent which is fine, but he has one tone and no emotion and I could not love it more.

There is a ton of action here and not any of it all that great, but it’s so fun to watch the cheese of it all that you can’t help but be entertained. The dialogue is silly and the film clearly knows what it is and goes all in. The action is plenty and fights are silly at times, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the guilty pleasure train wreck of it all. Big props to Bronzi who has found his niche in the genre and has gone all in and built a whole career out of it.

Check out the crazy cheesy cult cinema style glory of Bronzi in Escape From Death Block 13 available now On Demand.
