Hard Target 2 review by Bobby Blakey
Scott Adkins is one of the best martial arts actors out there right now who not only offers up some impressive martial arts abilities, but is a really good actor as well. He has already stepped into various franchises and even making some of them his own and he is doing it once again with his latest film Hard Target 2 a sequel to the Jean Claude Van Damme / John Woo film from 1993, but does it bring some new and improved action to the series or is it not worth the hunt?

Hard Target 2 follows retired mixed martial artist Wes "The Jailor" Baylor who can't refuse a million-dollar purse he's offered for one final bout in Myanmar. But when he arrives for the fight, he learns he's been tricked into becoming the target of a human hunt. Carrying only water and a ruby-filled money belt for the last person standing, Wes must outsmart the heavily armed group that has paid to kill him. As he fights for his life in the treacherous jungle terrain, the hunters become the hunted. The film features a good cast alongside Adkins including Robert Knepper, Rhona Mitra, Temuera Morrison, and Ann Truong who all do a good job with their respective characters. Adkins is great as always and is given the chance to showcase a wide range of emotions along with his impressive fighting abilities giving the character more depth. The always great Knepper is the perfect villain here channeling a version of Lance Henriksen’s character from the original as well as creating a new character all his to have fun with. This new entry plays up as more of a homage to the original using some similar moments, but overall being an entirely new movie with no connection outside of the plot which allows them to have a lot of fun.

There are some bumps in the road along the way, but overall this film offers up everything you expect from the genre and Adkins himself. It is an old school action film that will be sure to please fans and gives us a chance to watch Adkins kick some major ass which is always worth the price of admission. Join the hunt when Hard Target 2 hits Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD on September 6th from Universal Home Entertainment.
