The Complete First Season
review by Bobby Blakey
Before ever launching their new streaming platform DC Univese Online, DC had already announced numerous original programming including Swamp Thing, Young Justice: Outsiders, Doom Patrol and Titans which has already offered up two seasons. Another of the shows that had fans eager to debut was the new R rated animated adventures of Harley Quinn with The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco in the lead role. Now the show has kicked off its second season, which means it’s the perfect time to revisit the first season.
In the series, Harley Quinn has finally broken things off once and for all with the Joker and attempts to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy - the Legion of the Doom. She’s got her eyes on the prize and nothing can stop her, except maybe Batman and Commissioner Gordon or her jealous, deranged ex. But don’t worry - she’s got this. Or does she? So strap in for this non-stop, demented thrill ride!
I am not a big fan of Quinn, but admit that I enjoyed her in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey so was interested in seeing what they did with this show. To my joyful surprise it not only delivers it pulls no punches to bring some great fun and hijinks like only Quinn can. I am so glad they opted for the mature direction as it opens so many doors to take things way over the top. The animation is great and the cast of characters make for a great ensemble piece to give Harley a fun world to play in. Her over the top persona and crazed adventures make this a great new version of the DC characters to spread their wings in hopes we get more crazed adventures with them all.
Now you can bring the new animated series home that features all 13 episodes of the first season. Join in the animated chaos when Harley Quinn: The Complete First Season hits DVD on June 2 from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
