Hey Arnold!: The Ultimate Collection review by Bobby Blakey
Over the years Nickelodeon has delivered some fun cartoons that have had a lasted impact over the years including Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, Spongebob, The Ren & Stimpy Show and Rugrats. Their other hit series Hey Arnold! recently debuted an all-new original movie and now they are bringing home The Ultimate Collection.
Hey Arnold! follows the adventures of a daydreaming, jazz-loving, football-headed 9-year-old, who lives in a boarding house with his grandparents and some eccentric boarders; encounters life in the city with his best friend Gerald, a loofah-haired kid who is the keeper of the urban tales and coolest kid in class; and is tormented by Helga, who loves him secretly. I was never a big fan of this series mostly due to it coming after my generation. That is not to say I never saw it or wasn’t a cartoon fan, I just never really got into this show. That being said after sitting down and revisiting the series I was all in with the fun of it all.

The animation is great and the unique look to the characters and art style help it to stand out while still feeling like something you have seen before. The stories all work great to entertain the youngsters, but offer up some interesting directions for the older audiences including the mystery of his missing parents that is an ongoing thing through the show, but actually resolved in the feature The Jungle Movie, also included with this set.

With the films the animation is as good as ever offering up that big feature look instead of just the usual episode style. There was some clear effort put into bringing these fun characters back and this film is a great return that takes fans on a fun adventure that brings everything to a close while still opening it up to a new generation.

This release includes all 100 episodes of the series as well as both original films Hey Arnold!: The Movie and Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie. As if all of this wasn’t enough of a reason to grab this set it is filled with all-new bonus content that take fans behind this fun Nickelodeon classic. Join the fun of Nickelodeon’s famous football head with Hey Arnold! The Ultimate Collection available now on DVD from Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment.
