I was one of the many people that thought doing a LEGO movie was just a dumb idea, but ended up loving the movie as much as everyone else. Outside of all the other LEGO themed properties putting out films, the original that hit theaters in 2014 spawned a spin-off with The LEGO Batman Movie that was yet another big hit. Now they are piecing it all back together once again with the official sequel aptly titled The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and features a great cast from the original as well as some new additions including Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatirz and Arturo Castro. Could this next chapter build on what they succeeded with in the first film or will it fail to be awesome?

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part will take place five years after the first movie and find the heroes of Bricksburg, including Emmet, Lucy, Batman, Unikitty, MetalBeard, and Benny reuniting to face a new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the Lego universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored and musical worlds. I love the first film as well as the Batman spin-off movie, but was a bit concerned if they could keep this film going with the way they ended it to reveal the real world. Thankfully my thoughts on where this was heading in regards to the previous films entry was spot on and they not only captured the same magic again in many ways made it better. Part of the charm of the first film was the unexpected nature of it all. Here we know everything so they were smart to essentially go somewhere completely new using the direct ending to the film in a fun way.

Once again the voice cast is awesome and offer up some great fun with these characters as well as some excellent new ones that have taken this story to the

next level. Everyone brings their A game and seems to be having fun and while they keep the characters intact add new elements to them all. The pick this film up right at the end of the last one before jumping ahead to this new world they are living in and it is just as entertaining with some fresh new fun to be had. The new settings and characters expand this world that initially makes you wonder how this is going to connect to the setting of the original, but the pure genius of how it works makes it all the more fun.

It is no surprise that the animation is amazing as ever and at times even better than the original in my opinion. It’s fast, funny and full of heart complete with even more connections to the real world making for a bigger and better film. If you enjoyed the first film then you will no doubt love this one as well.

In addition to the movie this release features bonus content including commentary, outtakes & deleted scenes, promotional spots, music video, featurettes, and the holiday short Emmet’s Holiday Party: A LEGO Movie Short. Return to the world of LEGO with The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part available now on digital and then on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on May 7th from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
