Sony announces Real Genius on 4K

Before Top Gun, Batman Forever, Willow or Tombstone, Val Kilmer took on some smaller comedies that have become cult hits like the 1985 film Real Genius from Valley Girl director Martha Coolidge. The film co-starred Gabe Jarret, Jonathan Gries, William Atherton, Michelle Meyrink, and Ed Lauter and while wasn’t a major hit for the studio it still did well enough and seemed to get a lot of decent reviews. I loved it growing up and excited to see they are bringing it to 4K for the first time ever.

Real Genius follows a group of crazy college geniuses who put their heads together and almost anything can happen. Hold on for a freewheeling, uproarious look at just how much mischief a bunch of high-IQers can concoct. Chris is the top brain who just wants to party, Mitch is the 16-year-old whiz kid, and Lazlo, America's number one brain, literally lives in a world of his own ... Chris' closet. Supposedly hard at work on a lab project, they still find time to turn the dorm into an ice-skating rink, and throw a beach party in the auditorium complete with a lagoon and bikini-clad beauties. When the geniuses discover that their unscrupulous mentor Professor Hathaway has had them working on a secret weapon for the military, they plot an elaborate revenge. Their plan culminates in an incredible scheme that outsmarts the military and convinces the professor that it doesn't pay to fool with a REAL GENIUS!

In addition to the film this release offers up some bonus content including commentary, deleted scene and the TV version of the film. Grab your copy of Real Genius on September 13th when it hits 4K for the first time ever from Sony Home Entertainment.
