I love a good creature feature especially one that seemingly uses practical effects. The latest They Crawl Beneath from director Dale Fabrigar looks to bring that same fun to the genre. The film stars Michael Pare, Joseph Almani, Arthur Roberts, Merrick McCartha, Karlee Eldridge, Elena Sahagun and Natalia Bilbao. Will the creatures bring the fun or should they have stayed buried?

They Crawl Beneath follows young police officer Danny who is working on an antique car at his uncle’s remote ranch when a major earthquake hits, pinning him under the vehicle and leaving him bloodied, alone, and with no way to call for help. Just when he thinks the claustrophobic nightmare can’t get any worse, something truly horrifying emerges from the fissures in the ground, forcing Danny to engage in a brutal fight for his life—and his sanity.

I was eager to dive into this one in hopes that we would be getting some fun practical creature fun. While there is practical creature effects and some fun moments overall it ended up not bringing much to the table all that original. It took its own unique take, but screamed the world of Tremors and despite it trying it never felt as original it hoped.

The story is just simple enough to set up the release of the creatures, but also overinflates the story with side stories that really have no point for the bigger picture. Where the film could have been an awesome full monster fight flick it tried to crowbar in personal conflicts and family drama that really did nothing to push the primary story forward.

The cheesy creature effects are awesome screaming films like this from the 80s and 90s in the best way possible. I give them all the credit for some
