The Complete Originl Series

                                     by Bobby Blakey

There is no denying that Star Trek is one of the most iconic and popular franchises of all times. It has had numerous TV series, movies, cartoons, comics, novels, fan clubs and more. As big as it is today, you have to remember that it all started out with a three season series in the 60s. While the original series has been released in numerous formats, CBS and Paramount is bringing the series to the fans once again with Star Trek The Original Series: The Complete Series Blu-ray.

At this point everyone knows about Star Trek, but in case you have been in a galaxy far, far away and been avoiding it, the series follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise, representing the United Federation of Planets on a five-year mission in outer space to explore new worlds, seek new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before. A collection like this is hard to review from the series standpoint because the show itself is so iconic yet is also geared towards a specific audience. That being said going into this show whether you are an old school fan or a new one just boldly going into the show for the first time you will be pleasantly surprised. Each remastered episode looks better than ever. Seeing the original cast of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, James Doohan, and Walter Koenig during the original run not only takes you back to the brilliance of it all, but is a peak into history in the making setting the show up to be so much more. There is a simple brilliance to what Rodenberry created and the way they brought it to life, but it was this specific cast that made it what it was today. Some like to say someone like Shatner or Nimoy is the reason the series works, but it is the collective that truly made it work. Throughout these episodes you are reminded that everyone had their moment to shine and showcase that without the entire crew you would have no Star Trek.

With these remastered episodes you can see every bit of the greatness in a perfect visual sensation, but it also points out some of the flaws which makes it all the better. There are so many lost forms of filmmaking used in this series and seeing them back and looking so stunning in the collection will put a smile on your face. While having the series is awesome and most already know all about that it is the new packaging that will likely be appealing to some that haven’t bought it as of yet or would like to streamline the storage space. The packaging is simple in design, but visually has a classic iconic look that fits the series perfectly. It features a slip case design with the shell casing housing all 20 discs of the collection perfectly in one case.

As if the collection itself including all 79 episodes of the series wasn’t enough it features an out of this world amount of special features through all three seasons including featurettes, trailers and so much more than you could list here. It is easy to say this is probably the best release of this classic series to date and one that will surely be a must have for any fans of the Starfleet or any other intergalactic species out there. Boldly go back to where it all began and grab your copy of Star Trek The Original Series: The Complete Series available now on Blu-ray from CBS and Paramount Home Entertainment.
