The Adventurers      review by Bobby Blakey

Well Go USA continues to bring the best of Asian cinema to the US market. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, star in Asia is Andy Lau and Well Go is bringing his latest film The Adventurers home. The film co-stars Jean Reno, Shu Qi, Zhang Jingchu, and Yo Yang, but does it offer up the excitement it promises or will it fail to make the heist?

The Adventurers follows infamous thief Cheung Tan who has recently been released from prison. Soon after his release, Cheung immediately plots a heist with his partners Xiao Bao and Ye Hong in order to steal precious jewels in Europe. Meanwhile, French detective Pierre has been hot on Cheung's trails for many years. This time, he decides to capture Cheung and his gang of thieves for good. You can pretty much guarantee that a film is going to be good with Lau involved. This is a great heist film that captures all the usual beats needed for these kinds of films to work. I loved getting to see Jean Reno on screen again and with him alongside Lau made for a great game of cat and mouse. There are some great action moments and twists that keep you engaged without taking itself overly serious. Sure there are some heavy moments, but nothing that ever takes you too far out of the adventure of it all.

I had a great time with this one despite it being pretty predictable at times. Lau was great as always bringing his usual charisma to the role making him a likeable criminal which was needed to make this film work. Get in on the heist and grab your copy of The Adventurers available now on Blu-ray and DVD from Well Go USA.
