Ti West has had some interesting flicks in his career including House of the Devil, The Innkeepers and Sacrament to name a few. His latest film X looks to get back to more of that and stars Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi. Could this film bring the gory fun it promises or will it fail to get the money shot?

X follows a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives in 1979.

Right out the gate you get vintage horror vibes of films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but make no mistake this film does its own thing. The time period and adult film theme sets the perfect tone to dive into all the proper horror tropes and yet it still manages to do its own thing to give it a fresh feel. I don’t want to say too much here because it should be experienced, but will try my best without spoilers.

In a rare turn of events all the cast are not annoying like in most horror flicks and in fact pretty normal outside of adult film they are making. Now that doesn’t mean their hosts are any sort of normal and you know right away that something is afoot, but the direction it ends up going while sometimes predictable is gross and fun all around.

The film offers up plenty of gore to keep the blood thirsty horror fans happy and a story with some fun clues sprinkled throughout leading to the blood soaked finale. I loved this flick and am eagerly looking forward to the prequel Pearl coming out as well as the rumored possible sequel that I am all here for.

In addition to the film this release offers up bonus content including an extended scene and behind the scenes featurette. Grab your copy of X available now on digital, Blu-ray and DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
