72 Hours

Kevin Hart and director Tim Story have been teaming up for years with films including Think Like A Man, Ride Along, and numerous Kevin Hart comedy specials. Now they have reteamed once again for the Netflix comedy 72 Hours co-starring Kevin Hart, Marcello Hernández, Mason Gooding, Kam Patterson, Ben Marshall, Zach Cherry, Michael Mando, Kevin Dunn and Teyana Taylor. Could this latest comedy bring the expected laughs, or will it be a bachelor party not worth attending?
72 Hours follows a forty-year-old executive hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of twenty-somethings on a wild three-day bachelor party, after he’s inadvertently added to their group text.
Anytime a comedy is dealing with n a bachelor party you already know what kind of film you may be getting. Add to the mix Kevin Hart and his often over the top antics and you are going exactly in the direction you expect. This film dives headfirst into all the tropes, cliches and crazy fun one would expect for this genre complete with plenty of ridiculous plot directions. The set-up to how they get the gang together is kind of dumb, but when you buy into it then you can just enjoy the stupid fun of it all.
The usual over the top chaos ensues as the story moves forward and if you are into these kinds of movies then you will be thoroughly entertained. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments along with some jokes that fall flat. The cast all seem to have a great time and do a good job of keeping up with the fast-talking Hart who is bringing his usual energy to the fun. If you aren’t a fan of Hart, then the film will wear thin fast especially with his usual comedy being plaid up as the old man cringe which worked for me.
There are a lot of running gags with my favorite being Kam Patterson who plays Freshman. He is hilarious and plays up the lovable dummy to perfection delivering some of the best lines of the whole film. He gets his own redemption arc that makes him all the better. Everyone feeds off his moments too which makes those scenes all the better across the board. The film does feel forced at times and doesn’t do a whole lot to bring anything new to the genre, but I went in looking for laughs and I got just that.
