Affinity
review by Bobby Blakey
Martial Arts action star Marko Zaror has cemented himself as a premiere action guy in the business. He has popped up in an impressive variety of films including John Wick 4, The Killer’s Game, Machete Kills, Fight or Flight and more recently Diablo taking on another martial arts action star Scott Adkins. Zaror has carried plenty of his own films as well including Redeemer and The Fist of the Condor, but now he is taking on his first leading role in a US production in Affinity. The film co-stars Brooke Enge, Jane Mirro, and Louis Mandylor from director Brandon Slagle.
Affinity follows an ex-SEAL struggling with PTSD. He lives a life in fear of his demons until one day when he discovers a beautiful woman with no past of her own. Together they begin to build a life, but when she disappears, Bruno must return to his violent past if he’s going to save her from a shocking conspiracy.
As a massive fan of Zaror it goes without saying that I was not only excited to see him back in action, but to be able to lead the charge once again here. The film was surprisingly toned down for much of the run time as it allowed time to be spent with Bruno and this young woman’s relationship to build along with the dangers in the story as they unfold. This not only made you care more about the characters but gave Zaror more time to flex his acting chops and does a great job.
Despite its slow pacing there is still plenty of excellent action with Zaror kicking much ass just like the fans want. Right out the gate it gest into some action to set the tone before breaking it up with the story, but it always finds its way back so we can see Zaror kick ass like only he can. His unique style and taller larger frame always make his insane kicking ability all the more impressive. He cuts

loose anytime he gets the chance, and I am here for it.

The film isn’t breaking down any doors in the genre, but it brings that old school martial arts action vibe and a decent enough story to keep you interested. I love these types of films and bringing in Zaror makes it all the better. I love him as a bad guy, but here he shines as the lead kicking ass and bringing emotion to another level than what we have gotten to see since his film Redeemer.
