Boogie Nights 4K
         review by Bobby Blakey

Before being the global mega star that he is today, Mark Wahlberg, coming off his rap career as Marky Mark was finding his way in Hollywood. While he had some great performances in films like The Basketball Diaries and Fear it was the 1997 Paul Thomas Anderson film Boogie Nights that took him to the next level. Now the award-winning film is making its way onto 4K for the first time ever.

Boogie Nights follows adult film director Jack Horner who is always on the lookout for new talent and it's only by chance that he meets Eddie Adams who is working as a busboy in a restaurant. Eddie is young, good-looking and has plenty of libido to spare. Using the screen name Dirk Diggler, he quickly rises to the top of his industry winning awards year after year. Drugs and ego however come between Dirk and those around him and he soon finds that fame is fleeting.

This film not only made Wahlberg a star but put the late Burt Reynolds back on the map complete with an Oscar nomination despite him not being happy with his involvement. The film is outstanding taking a journey into the world of porn, but not in sex alone. While Wahlberg is the focal point it balances things out with smaller stories to the rest of the cast that are just as powerful.

It walks the line of gritty and depressing and dark humor to perfection. It plays up like a true story biographical film keeping you engaged and interested in what happened to these people despite it not being a true story about anyone other than the basis of Dirk based on John Holmes. It’s a fantastic film full of great performances and clever storytelling with some of my favorite being the old school promo footage of their copy flicks that is hilarious.

In addition to the film in beautiful 4K, this release offers up new and old bonus content including commentary, a music video, additional scenes, and more. Step into the world of the adult industry with Boogie Nights available now on 4K for the first time ever from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
