I think Sacha Baron Cohen is a comedy genius. His series The Ali G show was some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen. In 2006 he brought his hilarious character Borat to the big screen with the silly long titled film Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Now he is back once again for the new film with yet another long title, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Could this return to the world of Borat deliver more of the genius of the first film or should he stayed gone?

Since then he has done numerous others with Bruno getting his own film and more recently his series Who Is America? Now seemingly out of nowhere news came of a new Borat film that was not only announced but already completed with yet another crazy long title of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

One of the things I always think about going into these films is the difficulty it is to pull them off after such big success. I love that it is fully addressed here and worked into the story to not only make it work to be able to make the film but makes the film feel fresh and new while still being familiar. I love the original film so this film had a lot to live up to and I am glad to say it delivered everything I had hoped and more. Not only does it bring more of the expected insanity it brings some heart and deals with the current quarantine situation.

The story dives in right after the previous film ends and deals with the backlash of the laughs to Kazakhstan. This sets out a new mission for Borat to save his reputation and life leading to even more insanity that is hilarious. Sure there is some newness gone since we know what to expect this time around, but doesn’t make it any less entertaining. There are some great moments throughout and even a few that should probably lead to some legal action to those involved. Cohen and Maria Bakalova, who plays his daughter, do some crazy and often dangerous things to entertain, but it’s even crazier to what some of their subjects do.

My favorite aspect of this is the evolution of filming as the actual pandemic spreads and in turn changes the dynamic of the film. This made for a great twist to the whole thing and some even bigger laughs. This is just another example of the genius that is Sacha Baron Cohen. Yes it is an acquired taste of humor, but you cannot deny his dedication to delivering the laughs and insanity like only he can.

Check out the hilarious return to Kazakhstan and beyond with Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan when it streams exclusively on Amazon Prime on October 23rd.
