I love a good crazy comedy with a great cast. The latest, Buddy Games looks to have potential to be one of those featuring Dan Bakkedahl, Kevin Dillon, Josh Duhamel, Olivia Munn, James Roday, Dax Shepard, Nick Swardson and Josh Duhamel who is also writer and director of the film. Could this film bring the laughs or will it fail to finish the race?

Buddy Games follows six lifelong friends who Bob, aka “The Bobfather”, who reunites his pals for the Buddy Games, an insane competition of absurd physical and mental challenges with the chance to win a $150,000 pot after having a falling out five years ago. Now all bets are off, as the determined dudes fight, claw, and party for the big bucks.

I went into this film expecting some over the top fun and while it is here it was actually more toned down on some level then I expected. Make no mistake that doesn’t mean that they don’t go all in they do complete with some balls to the face laughs, quite literally. I love everyone in this cast so was eager to see them together especially with Duhamel in the director’s chair. They looked to be having a blast making this movie and their chemistry shines through to elevate the fun.

This is the kind of comedy that has been done a thousand times with the best friends and their crazy antics leading to dysfunction, but they really take it to the next level in some cases making it feel fresh and fun while still familiar. The games themselves are a big portion of the film, but still kind of secondary to what they are really dealing with. It all leads to a pretty predictable direction yet they do a couple of fun unexpected twists with the ending of it all that really sold it for me.

This is a funny film that is worth checking out for anyone that digs the cast, crazy laughs or just a good time. Grab your copy of Buddy Games available now on DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment.
