Throughout the years Shout Factory has been bringing a wide variety of classic flicks to Blu-ray via all new collector’s editions from every genre. The latest is the 1986 Stallone action film Cobra which is one of my all-time favorites and co-stars Brigitte Nielsen and Bryan Thompson.

Cobra follows Lt. Cobretti, a one-man assault team whose laser-mount submachine gun and pearl-handled Colt .45 spit pure crime-stopping venom! Director George P. Cosmatos (Rambo: First Blood Part II, Tombstone) teams up again with Stallone for this thriller pitting Cobretti against a merciless serial killer. The trail leads to not one murderer but also an army of psychos bent on slashing their way to a "New Order" – and killing a witness along the way. Fortunately, her protector is Cobra, a man who delivers vigilante justice like no other!

I don’t know if it is his cool vibe, the action or the slasher-esque tone to the whole thing, but I have always loved this movie. Sure it is filled with classic cheesy one-liners and over the top performances, but that is part of the charm. I was always bummed that this didn’t spawn a new Stallone franchise like they had hoped, but happy we still have this one. The opening grocery store sequence is one that watched over and over when I was a kid and was obsessed with his car and machine gun. All this brings together a great action film, but the icing on the cake is the great villain in Bryan Thompson and his bad ass knife.

This is vintage 80s Stallone action and holds up to deliver exactly the fun I have always loved. Recently Stallone mentioned wanting to possibly reboot the film into a TV series of some kind and while it just wouldn’t be the same without Stallone I am all for more action with Marion Cobretti. From the opening action scene to the final shot of Stallone and Nielson riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle this movie continues to entertain and still holds its own as one of my favorites.

This release not only includes a new 2K scan of the film as well as both old and new bonus features including trailer, featurettes, still gallery, commentary and so much more. Join the Zombie Squad and take on the cases no one else wants with Cobra Collector’s Edition available now on Blu-ray from Shout Factory.
