Before Jason Statham was taking on giant sharks, being fast and furious or expendable he took on the crazy role of Chev Chelios in the 2006 film Crank co-starring Amy Smart, Efran Ramirez, Jose Pablo Cantillo and Dwight Yokam. Now Sony is bringing the film back to the fans on 4K Ultra for the first time ever.

Crank follows hit-man Chev Chelios who is poisoned by the criminal Verona and his friend and doctor Miles advises him that he must keep his adrenaline levels elevated to stay alive. Chev meets his girlfriend Eve and together they look for Verona to kill him. When this film hit I was already on the Jason Statham bandwagon after seeing him in films like The One and Transporter. After seeing it I knew he was going to be a major action star and loved that this film was so ridiculous and fun on so many levels.

The story is simple and offers up just enough to keep it moving, but it’s all about the crazed action and situations that really keep this thing rolling. There are so many elements that scream the video game world and makes sure to keep it fast paced right up until the unexpected ending. This is a film that needed someone that could bring a seriousness to it that in turns makes it all the more ridiculous as opposed to trying to force it to be funny.

I forgot how fun this movie really was from the drive through the mall to the public relations that had the crowd cheering. This is a film all its own with only its sequel likely stepping the game up into something crazier. This new release is gritty and works even better on 4K for a film that holds up great and more fun than ever.

This release not only features the film but bonus content taking fans behind the film and more. Grab your copy of the new Crank 4K Steelbook exclusively at Best Buy available now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
