                 Crashing:

The Complete First Season

                             review by Bobby Blakey

There seems to be a trend of shows focusing on comedians right now with two major series on cable right now. One of these show is the Pete Holmes led series Crashing on HBO. Now fans can bring the entire first season home.

Crashing follows the semi-autobiographical life of a stand-up comic whose suburban life unravels, causing him to lose everything, but his sense of humor. Now he is forced to make a new start for himself after his wife leaves him. While this series takes on some of the real issues that comics face it takes a more light hearted approach to it. From the start of the first episode you know what kind of show you are getting and it is both awkward and funny all at once. Pete Holmes does a great job at being the lovable loser trying to overcome his broken heart and find his way in the world of standup. Its made all the better by the great supporting cast including Artie Lange, Lauren Lapkus, George Basil, Jermain Fowler, T.J. Miller, Sarah Silverman and Rachel Ray as well as a who’s who in the comic industry.

As the show plays out things go good and bad for him and while the comedy world aspect is great stuff it’s his relationship scenes that were the most entertaining. His interactions with his ex-wife’s new man are frustratingly hilarious. They have some great moments that poke fun at his situation while showcasing the ridiculousness of it all. In addition to all eight episodes of the series this collection also includes bonus features including behind-the-scenes featurettes, interviews and more. As if that isn’t enough of a reason to grab a copy this set also includes the HBO comedy special Pete Holmes: Faces and Sounds.
