 Extraction

Outside of a few films here and there we haven’t gotten the chance to really see Chris Hemsworth flex his action chops outside of the Marvel franchsie as the fan favorite Thor. Now he is teaming up with director Sam Hargrave, who was not only the stunt coordinator on Avengers: Infinity War and End Game, but also been the stunt double for Captain America since the The Avengers, for the new action flick Extraction. Could this film bring the action fans expect from this team or will it fail to deliver the goods?

Extraction follows an underworld of weapons dealers and traffickers where a young boy becomes the pawn in a war between notorious drug lords. Trapped by kidnappers inside one of the world's most impenetrable cities, his rescue beckons the unparalleled skill of a mercenary named Tyler Rake, but Rake is a broken man with nothing to lose, harboring a death wish that makes an already deadly mission near impossible.

I knew very little about this film other than the team involved so was hoping for something great and was not disappointed. The film plays up like a cross between John Wick and Man on Fire, both which I love. The action is almost non-stop with only a few slower moments for the story to progress. It’s always so obvious in these action movies when those working on them come from the stunt world as they always kick ass. This is an old school action flick that pulls no punches to bring a ton of gunfights, fight sequences and car chases.

There is one major action piece in the middle of the film that is shot like one take and it is all kinds of intense insanity brilliance. I love fast paced action and even more so when it is shot and executed with precision to where the audience can see what’s going on and here it is perfection. Hemsworth is great in the role and does great with the action along with his long time stunt double Bobby Holland Hanton. These two guys have been offering up great action together for years and here might be some of their best work. Hemsworth no doubt carries a lot of the action himself, but Hanton keeps stepping up his game as well offering some great and memorable moments.

The rest of the cast do a good job with this gritty action flick that had me smiling and excited from beginning to end. You can see these guys giving it their all throughout and it pays off to deliver one of the better action movies I have seen in some time. I can only hope that all these guys team up for more films like this in the future because the world needs more of their action perfection on the big and small screen.
