Fackham Hall review by Bobby Blakey

Over the last few years shows like Downton Abby and Bridgerton have been insanely popular. It was only a matter of time before the series got the spoof treatment and with the latest Fackham Hall we got just that and stars Thomasin McKenzie, Ben Radcliffe, Damian Lewis, Katherin Waterson, Haley Mills, Tom Felton and Jimmy Carr. Will this film bring the promised proper laughs, or will it be too stuck up to deliver?

Fackham Hall follows loveable pick-pocket Eric Noone as he lands a job at a unique English manor house. He quickly rises through the ranks, and a forbidden romance with lady-of-the-house Rose Davenport blossoms. But when an unexpected murder occurs, Eric gets framed - leaving Rose and her family’s future perilously uncertain.

I love spoof flicks, but we just don’t get many of them these days. The ones we have gotten have been hit and miss which is likely the reasoning they are getting to be fewer and far between. I also have never watched either Downton Abby or Bridgerton so was hoping it walked enough of a line that it wasn’t necessary to be able to still enjoy the nonsense. I was pleasantly surprised to how fun it was and how many laugh out loud moments are jam packed in this hilarious comedy.

IT fully embraces its absurdity in every way which made me so happy. It isn’t just the usual comedy but goes all in like classics such as Airplane and The Nake Gun too much success. The entire cast are all in and look to be having a blast which in turn shines through their performances. There are very few jokes that don’t land and even those are still humorous. Seeing people like Lewis, Waterson and Felton be absurd is fantastic.

It's always great to see the hilarious Jimmy Carr on screen who is also one of the writers of the film. His smaller role as the priest has an ongoing bit that cracked me up even though we didn’t get his signature laugh anywhere but did get an even funnier where are they now along with the other characters during the credits.

Filled with stupidity, clever laughs, injected real life people and a murder mystery, this film delivers everything I wanted and more. I hope it gets the audience it deserves because it is quite hilarious.
