Fight or Flight
review by Bobby Blakey

Josh Hartnett has been having a resurgence of late with appearances in films such as Oppenheimer, the series Get Hart and more recently Trap. Now he is taking the lead in the action genre with his latest film Fight or Flight co-starring Katee Sackhoff, Charithra Chandran, and Julian Kostov from director James Madigan. Could this film bring the promised action, or will it crash before take-off?
Fight or Flight follows exiled American agent Lucas Reyes who is given one last chance to redeem himself - the assignment is to track down and identify a mysterious, international high-value asset known only as The Ghost on a flight from Bangkok to San Francisco. Complicating matters, the plane is filled with assassins from around the world who are assigned to kill them both. The pair must work together in a fight for their lives. At 37,000 feet, the stakes have never been higher.
Honestly from the trailer this film looked like it had the chance to be some action-packed good time, but you just never know. I am glad to say that it nailed it across the board bringing forth a great action flick similar in tone and setting to Bullet Train and Passenger 57 while still having its own voice. That doesn’t mean it isn’t without its own issues, but it goes all in and knows what it is and works.
The story is simple as it gets everything set up tog et all the players on the plane. This is a bit all over the place and doesn’t offer up all that much outside of the set-up and I had been worried it wasn’t going to hit the mark it was aiming for. Once the film hits the skies it wastes no time before bringing the action-packed fun and rarely lets up for most of its run time. Sure, it is sometimes hard to believe no one is aware of anything going on but you just kind of must let it go and join in on the fun.

Hartnett seems to be having a great time in the midst of chaos and does a great job all around. The action is top notch, bringing plenty of brutal and fun fight sequences with what appears to be Hartnett doing a lot of his own stunts. There is no reason this film should work, but the perfectly executed action sequences dominate the screen to deliver a fun as hell fight spectacular that pulls no punches and a ton of fun.
I had a blast with this film and was hoping it might not be the last in however they can get Hartnett back in action. The film actually has an ending that is leading directly into a hopeful screening that I am here for if we get t. Until then we have the glorious violence of Fight or Flight when it hits theaters on May 9th from Vertical Entertainment.
