Sony brings Godzilla to 4K Ultra

I am stoked for Godzilla: King of Monsters coming later this year, but this new franchise was obviously not the only reboot of the famed monster. In 1998 director Roland Emmerich and writer Dean Devlin fresh off their hit Independence Day took their own crack at the kaiju aptly titled Godzilla starring Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, and Hank Azaria.

In this take on the famed character, after French atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific, an unknown creature is spotted passing through the Panama Canal. Scientist Niko Tatopolous is called in to investigate the matter, and he quickly arrives at the conclusion that a giant, irradiated lizard has been created by the explosions. Godzilla® then makes its way north, landing in Manhattan to begin wreaking havoc in the big city.

This new release not only features the film in 4K Ultra for the first time ever, but also bonus content including commentary, music video, featurettes and more. Grab your copy of Godzilla when it hits 4K Ultra for the first time on May 14th from Sony Home Entertainment.
