Good Burger 2   review by Bobby Blakey

Before Kennan Thompson was a major player on SNL and his own hit series Kenan he was teamed up with the always funny Kel Mitchell for their own series Kenan and Kel that spun out of the sketch comedy series All That. Good Burger was one of the favorite sketches from All with the fans. In 1997 the duo reteamed for a big screen version of the sketch aptly titled Good Burger that has since taken on a cult following. Fans have been wanting a sequel ever since and now all these years later the duo is back for Good Burger 2 is finally here. The film co-stars Jillian Bell, Lil Rel Howery, Emily Hinkler, Elizabeth Hinkler, Anabel Graetz, and Alex R. Hibbert from director Phil Traill. Could this follow-up serve up more of the laugh’s fans want or will it not be worth placing the order?

Good Burger 2 follows Dexter Reed who is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to "Good Burger" with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again!

I was excited to head into this film, but must admit I wasn’t a big fan of the original film. I always found Kenan and Kel funny, but just thought the film was stupid back then. Since I have revisited it, more recently with the 25th anniversary edition release and found myself with a changed opinion. Of course, it is stupid, that’s kind of the point and its hilarious, enduring and all around a good time. The problem with making a sequel to a movie like after so many years is they are adults now and could it even work the same? The answer is a resounding yes all around.

Everything that made the original film so silly and fun is right back in place here

in every way. Both Kenan and Kel dive right back into the roles like they never left and despite their ages their mental youth and ability to bring the funny still works great. Of course the entire concept and story is goofy, but they know that and run with it. I loved getting to revisit these character and not just in a nostalgic way. I literally laughed out loud numerous times and most of it was just dumb, but had me cracking up.

The film is everything you could want for a sequel and a fun return to this series. The entire reason this works is Kenan and Kel. They still have great chemistry and work perfect together. I always hoped we would be getting more stuff from them together and hopefully this will be the start of their return as a team. Either way this is the kind of silly, heartfelt, chaotic nonsense that is perfect for the entire family to dive right into. As if the duo alone wasn’t enough it features plenty of fun cameos that will have you smiling from ear to ear and laughing often.

It pairs great with the original and with it getting the streaming release offers up the perfect chance to plan a double feature. If you like the original film then you will likely love this one as well so place your order now and make it a double.

In addition to the film this release offers up bonus content including bloopers, featurettes and so much more. Fire up the grill and grab your copy of Good Burger 2 available now on digital, Blu-ray and DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment.
