Like most I have always loved all things Dr. Seuss. Over the years there have been a variety of animated takes including the iconic The Grinch, The Lorax and Horton Hears A Who. In 2019 the famed book Green Eggs and Ham took center stage for an all-new animated series on Netflix. The series features a great voice cast including Michael Douglas, Adam Devine, Keegan-Michael Key, Eddie Izzard, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Diane Keaton, but does it do the source material justice or will it not be a dish worth ordering?

Green Eggs and Ham follows a chance meeting at a diner and a briefcase switch-up, that results in two unlikely companions Sam and Guy getting mixed up on an adventure that takes them on a road trip to save an endangered animal – the elusive Chickeraffe – from a far-off zoo. The two mismatched souls cross paths with the overprotective Michellee, whose daughter, EB desperately wants a pet and falls in love with the Chickeraffe…despite her mother’s fears that it will eat off her face (it won’t). As Michellee’s walled-up heart connects with the heart-hardened Guy, a laborious love story begins. With the foursome also unknowingly pursued by a bounty-hunter Goat, two bad guys, McWinkle and Gluntz and Snerz a tiny, evil overlord who’s out to get the Chickeraffe as his ultimate trophy, they set out on a cross-country road trip, learning to try new things along the way – like hope, friendship…and a certain delectable dish!

So far there has been nothing related to the world of Dr. Seuss that I have not liked and this show is no different. It is obviously only loosely based on the original book, but it runs with it and fully brings this new familiar world to life. Every episode is filled with the wonders of Seuss and his fantastical style of characters and creatures. Every twist and turn in their journey takes you deeper into the wonderful wacky

world of Seuss. All this alone would make it worth watching, but the fun story and great characters give it that something special it needed.

It was both fun and heart felt watching these characters interact on their crazy journey. Jam packed with laughs, fun, adventure and heart it fully pulls you into their silly world to perfection. The voice work is great and really enhances the beautiful animation that accompanies it. This is old school hand drawn animation featuring a beautifully vibrant colorful world that screams Seuss while still being something modern and new. I love this show and cannot wait for the next season to kick off.

This DVD includes all 13 episodes of the season that fans of the fantastical world of Dr. Seuss will no doubt love. Grab your copy of Green Eggs and Ham: The Complete First Season available now from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
