Inception 4K Ultra

          review by Bobby Blakey

Christopher Nolan has long established himself as not only a great filmmaker, but one that likes to take chances. With every film he seems to push the boundaries in some direction and Iception was no different. The film sports a great cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, Tom Berenger, Michael Caine and Lukas Haas. Now the hit film is getting a rerelease, but this time with the 4K Ultra treatment.

Inception follows Dom Cobb a skilled thief who is the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible - inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. Bringing together one of the most brilliant directors in Nolan teaming up with one of the best actors in the world DiCaprio was a match of perfection. As good as the movie is it still never fully connected with me completely.

The story felt fresh and original despite some dragging in the middle. The entire cast work perfect together and coupled with the insanely cool effects makes for a cool movie. At the time of its release I never thought it was going to make all that much sense, but all these years later it still holds up as a great movie. There is so much more depth to the story and characters than I had thought most notably with DiCaprio’s performance. This is one of those rare films that comes out as a piece of film brilliance that is likely only something that someone like Nolan could have pulled off.

This latest 4K Ultra release just adds to the overall awesomeness of the film with a great transfer and a visual treat that makes this release worth adding or replacing your original copy for. In addition to the film this release also includes numerous bonus features including a variety of featuretts that take you behind bringing this groundbreaking film to life and more.
