        Into the Badlands:

The Complete First Season

                             review by Bobby Blakey

AMC has offered some really great shows including Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. This past season they offered up a different kind of show with Into the Badlands starring Daniel Wu, Aramis Knight, Marton Csokas, Oliver Stark, Orla Brady, Srah Bolger, Ally Ioannides, Madeleine Mantock and the always great Stephen Lang. Now Anchor Bay is bringing this action packed series home with Into the Badlands: The Complete First Season.

The series follows the spiritual journey of Sunny and M.K., a teenage boy who harbors a unique ability, and their growing relationship as teacher and student set in a world centuries from now. Both discover their true purpose and decide to explore what lies beyond the borders of the Badlands, but as their Baron Quinn continues to battle against his own family as well as his rival Baron The Widow, Sunny and M.K.’s journey to a more peaceful existence seems further out of reach. From the first episode this series makes sure to let you know it is something different and that the action will be plenty. I really loved the world this series has created with an old school feel coupled with a futuristic vibe. The choice of making it a very martial arts run world makes it all the more interesting and opens it up to some great fight sequences and character directions. Daniel Wu does a great job in the lead bringing great charisma to the role while perfectly executing the martial arts action. There are some slow moments here and there as it allows the story to unfold but continued to found its footing as it got further along in the story. Thankfully despite these slow moments there is so much great action and interesting story here you will no doubt find yourself sucked right in until the very end waiting for more.

This release not only includes all the episodes from the first season, but also a ton of bonus features including featurettes that take you deeper behind the story, characters, fights and more. Join the fight and grab your copy of Into the Badlands: The Complete First Season when it hits Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
