jackass: best and last
review by Bobby Blakey
When MTV launched the insanity of the jackass TV series in 2000 no one could have predicted that it would have become the juggernaut that it did. While the series only ran for 3 seasons it spawned numerous films and specials. After jackass forever hit in 2022 it felt like that was finally the end of the crazy ride as the cast had gotten older, some fractured relationships and moving on in their careers. Now the gang is getting back together for one last ride in the latest chaotic big screen ride with jackass best and last.
Johnny Knoxville and the gang return for one final fling at the big screen. Featuring all-new stunts and stupidity along with the greatest hits and biggest laughs from the past, jackass: best and last is a joyously raucous celebration of all the mischievous camaraderie that you’ve come to love and expect from these idiots over the past 25 years. So, grab your dumb little buddies, raise your glasses, and come experience the cinematic event that promises to be the last time you’ll ever laugh this hard in a theatre.
In addition to Knoxville new and old cast return including Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Wee Man (Jason Acuña), Dave England, Danger Ehren (Ehren McGhehey), Preston Lacy, Rachel Wolfson, Jasper, Dark Shark (Compston Wilson), Poopies (Sean McInerney), and Zach Holmes with Jeff Tremaine returning to direct. Bam does appear via stock footage along with the late Ryan Dunn.
I love everything about jackass and have been on this ride since the beginning. I was eager to see this stated last film to see what new antics the guys are getting into even if it isn’t really the last since Knoxville has stated this before. This time
around the film serves as not only more of the gross insanity they are known for, but also a retrospect of the entire history of the franchise. There are plenty of fun new stunts and gags, but they are all wrapped around showcasing some classic moments and never before seen stuff that was originally not allowed to be released for various reasons.
If you have seen any of the show or films you already know what you are going to be getting complete with male nudity, vomit, nut shots, torture and everything in between. I honestly had worried about the new cast that joined previously would end up taking more front and center this time around even though they are all fun in their own right. Thankfully they let the OG’s lead the charge for this last outing while still letting the newbies get in on the fun. I can see this new cast leading the charge in the future, but not sure they would have the same strong appeal, but I would still be there for it. Every one of the original members that are here gets in on the fun for plenty of shock, laughs and disgust that had me laughing throughout.
I love these guys and know that it’s not for everyone, but this film is a love letter to their legacy and the fans that have stuck by them for all these years. They have literally destroyed their bodies for our entertainment and while obviously not the smartest idea but still should be applauded and appreciated for their dedication and years of entertainment.
Open your doors and let the masters of chaos and shenanigans come into your home with jackass: best and last available now on digital and then on Blu-ray and DVD on October 6th from Paramount Home Entertainment.
