Scooby Doo!: Blowout Beach Bash review by Bobby Blakey

There are few cartoon characters that have been through as much successful iteration as that of Scooby-Doo. While not all have clicked with the hardcore fans, but it still keeps churning along. Now the popular gang of mystery detectives are heading into the world of LEGO once again with the all-new original movie LEGO Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash, but can it capture the same fun as the other LEGO films as well as the classic take on the characters or will it not be able to snap together?

LEGO Scooby-Doo! Blowout Beach Bash follows Scooby-Doo! and his pals Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy who are no strangers to solving spooky mysteries filled with all types of ghouls and goblins. This time is no different. As Scooby-Doo! and his friends are on their way to Blowout Beach for a real swinging beach party in the Mystery Machine, the Ghost Pirates threaten to ruin the gang’s good vibes. It is up to Scooby and the gang to get the party back on track, without missing a beat. Most of the LEGO films tend to really play up the comedy and fun of the LEGO aspect and while that is here it seemed a lot more toned down. Maybe it is just so common now it seems that way, but the overall film really just felt like a normal Scooby-Doo film that just happens to be done in LEGOs as opposed to really playing it up. The story works great capturing all the fun of the normal Scooby formula and flipped it on its head with the LEGO universe telling the tale.
As someone who is not a big fan of Scooby Doo! I did find myself losing interest at times due to the same formula the franchise always uses. I enjoyed the previous LEGO film they did so guess I was hoping for more of the same, but for some reason it kind of fell flat as a whole. If you have ever seen any of the other LEGO films you already know the great animation you are getting and this film doesn’t fall short on that and is fun to see this world come to life while being blended with the LEGO universe.

Hardcore fans of Scooby-Doo and the gang will no doubt have a lot of fun and will want to add this latest film to their growing collection. In addition to the film this release features a few vintage cartoons to have some fun with.
