Disney/Pixar continues to bring the best of animation to the fans. Their last film Soul was so great and took a unique approach to life and music like only they can. Now they are preparing to go a whole new direction with their latest film Luca. The film features the voice talents of Jacob Tremblay, Maya Rudolph, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Jim Gaffigan with Academy Award® nominee Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) in the director’s chair. Could this be yet another hit for them or will it sink to the bottom of the ocean?

Luca follows a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera and a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

I must say initially I was a bit worried as the animation and look of it all seemed a bit simplistic in comparison to what we normally get from Pixar. Not surprising as it moved forward its magic came along with it and submerses you into the beautiful world under the sea. This world is bright and vibrant and looks amazing. The character designs and wonderful world they have created is so fun to watch and feast for the senses. I love the look of the sea monsters and their world that is full of personality and character.

When they step out of the ocean and onto land it takes the story into a whole new direction full of even more fun and adventure along with the usual heart and heartbreak that you expect from these films. I love the varying way they had not only the tranformations back and forth as well as the clever ways they tried to hide it. Add all this fun to a funny and strange town Italian pasta eating triathlon and you have yet another fun flick from the genius’s at Pixar.

In addition to the film this release offers bonus content including deleted scenes, two alternate openings and numerous featurettes taking you behind bringing this fantastical adventure to life. Dive in and grab your copy of Luca available now on digital, 4K Ultra, Blu-ray and DVD from Disney Home Entertainment.
