Minority Report 4K        review by Bobby Blakey

Director Steven Spielberg is one of the greatest directors of all time, bringing so many great films to the masses throughout his impressive career. His foray into the world of Sci-fi has produced some of the most iconic in the genre including E.T., War of the Worlds, Ready Player One, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and many more. In 2002 he teamed up with Tom Cruise for the film Minority Report co-starring Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Steve Harris, Neil McDonough, Tim Blake Nelson and the late Max Von Sydow.

Minority Report follows the year 2054 A.D. where crime is virtually eliminated from Washington D.C. thanks to an elite law enforcing squad "Precrime". They use three gifted humans (called "Pre-Cogs") with special powers to see into the future and predict crimes beforehand. John Anderton heads Precrime and believes the system's flawlessness steadfastly. However, one day the Pre-Cogs predict that Anderton will commit a murder himself in the next 36 hours. Worse, Anderton doesn't even know the victim. He decides to get to the mystery's core by finding out the 'minority report' which means the prediction of the female Pre-Cog Agatha that "might" tell a different story and prove Anderton innocent.

I was blown away by this film upon its initial release. It just felt different than anything we had seen bringing a sci-fi element to the murder mystery. The gritty look and grey color palate offers up a bleaker look at the future and fits perfectly with the story and world that they have created. Tom Cruise is in top form here, but it was Colin Farrell who got on my radar. This was one of the earliest films I saw before going back to his other work and have been a fan ever since.

The mix tone of crime thrillers, mystery, who dun it or more accurately who is going to do it along with the futuristic world around them holds up to perfection. Even knowing the outcome of the film revisiting it was still a showcase of a perfect blend of genres and still one I love just as much as when I saw it back in 2002 in the theater. The hi-def looks fine although not sure it brings too much to the film outside of the enhanced computer sequences, but still a great way to see the film and worthy of adding to your collection.

In addition to the film this release offers up legacy bonus content including featurettes, trailers, storyboard sequences, concepts and so much more. Join the fight to stop crime before it happens with Minority Report available now on 4K for the first time ever from Paramount Home Entertainment.
