Over the last few years Disney has been on a tear doing live action adaptations of their animated features with some hitting the mark and others not so much. The latest getting the treatment is 2016’s Moana. This live action version stars Catherine Lagaʻaia, John Tui, Frankie Adams, Rena Owen and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui from Hamilton director Thomas Kail.

 

Moana follows Moana who answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.

 

While you will have to wait until July 10, 2026 to see this reimaging of the animated classic in theaters, you can check out the first teaser poster and trailer here now from Disney.
