Alan Ritchson has been kicking some major ass as Jack Reacher in the TV series. He has been making some appearances in various genres lately including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Playdate, and War Machine. Now he is teaming up with Old Henry and Greedy People director Potsy Ponciroli for the revenge thriller Motor City co-starring Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber, Ben Foster, and Ben McKenzie. Could this film bring the action fans hope for or will it fail to make any noise?

 

Motor City follows a working-class romantic is framed by a ruthless gangster after falling for his girlfriend in 1970s Detroit. After years in prison, he returns with only one mission: revenge. With operatic scale, MOTOR CITY unleashes a barrage of brutal action, magnetic performances, and striking imagery, fueled by a thunderous rock score, precision-crafted action, and immersive sound design to create a visceral, propulsive spectacle built to electrify audiences this summer.

 

I didn’t watch the trailer for this film prior to seeing it but had heard they were trying to do the entire film with no dialogue so was intrigued to how it was going to work. It’s a simple revenge story that had it been done in the traditional dialogue and action would have been a good flick, but the creative lack of dialogue elevates it to something more intriguing. Clearly a lot of thought went into how to make it work while still making sure the audience always knows what is going on because it is clear at every turn and the emotions are front and center.

 

All the cast do a good job using their physical performances to tell the tale with Ritchson carrying the heaviest load. His hulking physical appearance easily gives him that imposing presence, but he is still able to bring depth and emotion to make the character more rounded and relatable. The scene stealer for me though is Ben Foster whose sleezy villain is all personality. He uses facial expressions
