When Jason Statham is leading the charge, you know you are in for some great action. His latest film Mutiny teams him up with Plane director Jean-Francois Richet co-starring Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester. Could this latest Statham flick bring the usual mayhem fans crave or will it get lost at sea?

Mutiny follows Cole Reed who boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss’ death only to discover an international conspiracy after witnessing his murder and being framed for the crime.

 

Going into a Jason Statham film you know what you are getting and more often than not entertains. This is yet another of those films from the action star that I was all in for and while the action here is as bad ass as you expect there isn’t near as much of it as I had expected. The story is just simple enough to get things moving and set up the characters, but nothing that really stands out beyond getting to the action.

 

All the characters are generic and interchangeable with Statham being the only one you really care about seeing. Wallis does a decent job, but the build up of her back story doesn’t really go anywhere other than used for dialogue and her capture, escape, capture, escape, pattern wears thin. Thankfully she isn’t just the usual helpless maiden, but they also don’t try to make her the unstoppable killing machine that Statham is.

 

The slow pacing for much of the film might make some bail on it before getting to the meat of the action and while it is always awesome seeing Statham wreak havoc on the bad guys it isn’t anything you haven’t seen before. It doesn’t push any boundaries in the genre but still manages to be a decent enough action flick to keep you entertained especially for the hardcore Statham fans.
