   Nobody 2
review by Bobby Blakey

I love it when actors step into a genre they aren’t known for especially action films. In 2021 Bob Odenkirk most known for his work out Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul took his chance to kick some ass with the film Nobody co-starring Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Colin Hanks, Sharon Stone, Daniel Bernhardt, John Ortiz and RZA. Now the gang is getting back together for Nobody 2 this time with Headshot and The Night Comes For Us director Timo Tjahjanto at the helm. Could this next chapter bring the fun and sun as promised or will it fail to find the break it is hoping for?

Nobody 2 follows suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob and remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs. Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and only place where Hutch and his brother Harry went on a vacation as kids. With Hutch’s dad in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville eager for some fun in the sun. But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator and his shady sheriff, Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered.

I love the first film, so it goes without saying that I have been eagerly waiting for this sequel since it was announced. My biggest concern was how they were going to make it work as it of course comes off just as one of those just convenient circumstances that are kind of silly. While that is exactly what this is, it still offers up a past element that connects them to this trip and why things would be this way, and it works.

The film kicks off exactly like the first film, but with some new twists to let you know we are in a different place. Now that his job is out in the open with the family we get to dive right into the action and it’s just as fun as the first film. Where the first film kept things pretty serious this one gets a little more lighthearted at times while still maintaining the tone carrying over from the original film. The family gets a lot more to do this time around and we get to learn more about Hutch and his past that expands the series without bogging it down with too much stuff out of this story.

Sharon Stone pops in to bring the over-the-top villainess to the mix and while she is a bit annoying at times and doesn’t always fit with the rest of the film looks like she is having a blast. It gives them the chance to introduce some other fun bad henchmen including a duo of female badasses and the return of the always awesome action star Danile Bernhardt in a different role. Odenkirk steps right back into the action and brings his violent likeable nature to the role once again and carries the action like a champ and there is no shortage of it.

The film amps up the action and kills with plenty to keep fans happy. From simple misunderstanding ass whooping’s to a full on shoot out and booby trap finale it delivers. They stepped up every aspect of the action to a whole new level getting plenty creative with the kills and making it a fun ride that any action fan will enjoy. It has moments that are just ridiculous, but that’s part of the charm and further extends this world in a way that will hopefully lead into another chapter of Nobody.

In addition to the film this release offers bonus content including deleted scenes and featurettes taking you behind the action and fun brought to life on screen. Head out on a fun violent vacation with Nobody 2 available now on digital, 4K, Blu-ray and DVD along with the 2-Movie Collection from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
