One Last Shot
  review by Bobby Blakey

In 2021 director James Nunn teamed up with martial arts action star Scott Adkins for the film One Shot. The entire film was shot to look like one take. In 2024 they teamed up once again for the sequel One More Shot bringing in Michael Jai White for the action. Now Nunn and Adkins are getting back together once again for the third chapter One Last Shot. This time Adkins is also reteaming with both Dolph Lundgren and Kane Kosugi as well as Steven Cree and Hannah Ware. Could this next chapter bring more of the one-shot action fans hope for or will it miss the mark?

One Last Shot follows Navy SEAL Jake Harris who is called back into action when the world is threatened by disillusioned former comrade turned domestic terrorist, Elliot Carter. Harris must track down and prevent the mastermind from taking control of the U.S. missile defense network, leading his team into enemy territory against a brutal barrage of mercenaries, deadly traps, and a reckoning with his own checkered past.

Much like the two previous films in the trilogy they use the one take style to bring the action to life. This style can get exhausting sometimes, but through these three films they used it to a great style with each of them having their own look and feel while still being connected. Story wise each of the films picks up where the last left off so you really need to see the previous films, but the story isn’t so deep that you can’t just jump right into the action of this one. The biggest issue will be not understanding why he is all beat to hell and worse with each film.

The first film is Adkins with his team in on the action with the second film focused more on Adkins in solo action. This time around he is thrust back into a

new team, but this time as back up but fear not he is still front and center to kick some ass. Lundgren is more of a cameo but does have a meaty role to set the mission in place as well as book ending it to give it a finale, but he doesn’t get in on any of the action.

As a huge fan of Kane Kosugi, I was excited to see these two back on screen once again as they always create martial arts magic together. This time around we get a couple of face-offs and while they are more brutal style fights as opposed to martial arts flash, which fits for these characters, they both go all in. It is more impressive in the one-take approach to the intensity and perfection they deliver all around.

The film isn’t breaking any walls down in the action genre but brings that old school tone that I love. Adkins is so good in these kinds of films and here is no different. This is a great action trilogy for fans of the genre that floods the senses with fights, shoot-outs and any other kind of action you could want.

The ending is finite for this series and while I would love to see more of this character and the one-take style, I also think it was a good ending to the series. Decide for yourself and grab your copy of One Last Shot available now on DVD from Sony Home Entertainment.
