Poop Talk
review by Bobby Blakey
It always amazing how the documentary genre can take a subject and if handled properly make it the most compelling thing ever. The latest documentary Poop Talk from director Aaron N. Feldman features a variety of people from comics to doctors including Kumail Nanjiani, Nicole Byer, Adam Carolla, Rob Corddry, Nikki Glaser, Pete Holmes, Eric Stonestreet, Randy and Jason Sklar, Nick Swardson, Dr. Drew Pinsky and many others, but does it bring that something special to make you laugh or should it have been flushed down the toilet?
Poop Talk takes an open and honest (and hilarious) look at a taboo topic in today’s society. The docu-comedy gives an inside look at all things poop from uncensored, embarrassing moments to scientific explanations recounted by 50 experts and comedians. Being one of the many immature people out there the title alone had me sold, but thankfully there is so much more to laugh at here. For those concerned this isn’t focusing on the actual act of pooping, but instead the pop culture and fun behind the stories and experiences it causes. This film follows the simplistic format of the documentary with it just allowing the various people just speak and bring the fun. There are a ton of great stories here that are laugh out loud, but still shine a poignant light on the impact this has on everything these days.
There isn’t overly new here that stands out in regards to being a documentary, but instead it just lets the stories and laughs fly to create a film you won’t soon forget. I laughed out loud numerous times here and think the idea alone here is just brilliant and applaud them for keeping it simple and allowing the stories to tell the tale of bathroom bliss because more often than not that is enough when poop is involved.
