PG: Psycho Goreman          review by Bobby Blakey

I love all things horror especially if it deals with more practical effects and over the top gory fun. The latest, PG: Psycho Goreman looks to be all that and more and stars Nita-Josee Hanna, Owen Myre, Adam Brooks, Alexis Hancey, and Matthew Ninaber with Steven Kostanski in the director’s seat. Could this wacky looking flick bring everything the fans are hoping for or will it be too hard to control?

PG: Psycho Goreman follows siblings Mimi and Luke who unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord who was entombed on Earth millions of years ago after a failed attempt to destroy the universe. They nickname the evil creature Psycho Goreman (or PG for short) and use the magical amulet they discovered to force him to obey their childish whims. It isn’t long before PG’s reappearance draws the attention of intergalactic friends and foes from across the cosmos and a rogues’ gallery of alien combatants converges in small-town suburbia to battle for the fate of the galaxy.

I went into this movie with and open mind and low expectations just in case. The film is silly, ridiculous, gory and a butt load of fun. The premise is simple and dumb, but finds its place in a real world scenario while being infused with horror and sci-fi. It wastes no time delivering the story and setting it all up to get right to the meat of it. From the moment you see the two kids playing their game of “Crazy Ball” you  know they are going t be a lot of fun to watch, but add in a “man in suit” creature with a taste of blood and fury it is silly perfection.

The whole film is like if Troma got the Power Ranger monsters team and a good budget smashed together into a horror comedy and pulls no punches in the laughs or the violence. I had so much fun with this movie and hope it is one that keeps finding its audience because everything about it works. Sure it’s over the top and silly, but that is part of its charm. There is such a wide variety of creature and alien designs that range from silly to badass it just makes the whole thing work way better than it likely should.

This will no doubt become one of those cult classic films and hopefully spawns more films into this world, but no matter what it one that the gorehounds will no doubt have a bloody good time with. Grab your copy of Psycho Goreman available now on Blu-ray and DVD from RLJE Films.
