Pure Country: Pure Heart review by Drusilla Blakey
“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”
When country music icon George Strait hit the big screen in his 1992 film Pure Country who would have thought it would have spawned a franchise, but it did just that with the first follow up with 2010s Pure Country: The Gift. Now the latest entry is here with Pure Country: Pure Heart this time without George Strait. The film stars Kaitlyn Bausch, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Amanda Detmer, Laura Bell Bundy, Willie Nelson, Shawn Michaels, and Ronny Cox, but does it offer up anything more to make this franchise worthwhile or will it fail to hit the note?

Pure Country: Pure Heart follows teenage sisters Ada and Piper. Upon discovering a letter about their late father, a Marine who died in Iraq, they leave rural Tennessee and hit the road secretly in search of the truth about the man they never knew. As they uncover his past as a budding country music star, the sisters find their own voice, beginning their journey as singers/songwriters. This movie is unfortunately, not that impressive or original. It’s very predictable, and although we see the names of Willie Nelson and Shawn Michaels mentioned, they are hardly in the film. The story really follows the two girls on their road to musical self-discovery. I’m sure that younger audiences may find the movie cute and interesting, but others may find the story to slow and too drawn out to care.
This latest installment may not appeal to a broad audience except those who are fans of the original films, Willie Nelson or WWE star, Shawn Michaels and most that will want to watch this movie anyway will likely be these fans. The music here is actually not all that bad, but the acting is pretty hit and miss making for a movie that fails to really standout or do the original justice. In addition to the film this release also includes bonus content including music video and more.
