Rick & Morty: Season 8
                        review by Bobby Blakey

There are so many great cartoons out there, but few have had the impact and secured the fanbase like Rick and Morty. After only three seasons the show had not only garnered tons of fans, but also comics, games, merchandise and more. Now heading into towards its ninth season and already receiving a season ten order, shows no signs of slowing down. Now the highly anticipated eighth season is making its way home.

Rick and Morty revolve around the adventures of the members of the Smith household, which consists of parents Jerry and Beth, their children Summer and Morty, and Beth's father, Rick Sanchez, who lives with them as a guest. Rick is an eccentric and alcoholic mad scientist, who eschews many ordinary conventions such as school, marriage, love, and family. He frequently goes on adventures with his 14-year-old grandson, Morty, a kind-hearted but easily distressed boy, whose naïve but grounded moral compass plays counterpoint to Rick's Machiavellian ego.

Morty's 17-year-old sister, Summer, is a more conventional teenager, who worries about improving her status among her peers and sometimes follows Rick and Morty on their adventures. The kids' mother, Beth, is a generally level-headed person and

assertive force in the household, though self-conscious about her professional role as a horse surgeon. She is dissatisfied with her marriage to Jerry, a simple-minded and insecure person, who disapproves of Rick's influence over his family.

In the new season life has meaning again! Anything is possible! Look out for adventures with Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Maybe Butter Bot will get a new task? Whatever happens, you can’t keep Rick and Morty down for long. People have tried!

To say this show is genius is an understatement. There is just so much in every episode from laughs to the attention to detail in the universes they travel too. If you have never seen the show, it kicks off already happening and kind of throws you for a loop, but you quickly realize there is no time for set-up, and you will learn all about these characters as it moves forward. While the series might be titled Rick and Morty as the show has evolved it has become very much about all the characters with all of them getting some great arcs.

I love the classic animation style that offers up simplistic visuals that are still highly complex and visually pleasing to the eye. The vibrant colors are regularly splashed with blood and bodily fluids in some wacked out ways and only add to the show’s greatness. The voice acting is awesome across the board and there isn’t a single character you can’t wait to see again. Like most shows there are plenty of reoccurring themes and characters that keep the show evolving while maintaining its overall ridiculous nature throughout.

Each season gets better and better. They continue to push the boundaries and really bring in some great fun, homages and over the top antics that are both original and familiar. It’s amazing how they find so many over the top directions that work at their best when the most ridiculous. I was surprised to find my favorites of this season following Jerry being turned into the Easter Bunny and another traveling with another version of himself. Both are hilarious and give Jerry the attention he deserves.

The series has already been renewed through season twelve and I cannot wait for the next season and to see what insanity they get into next. This release not only includes all 10 episodes plus bonus content from the eighth season, including exclusive content only available on Blu-ray and DVD releasing November 18th from Warner Bros Discovery and adult swim.
