Robot Chicken:
The Complete Series
review by Bobby Blakey

In 2005 Seth Green and Matthew Senreich fresh off their animate short for Late Night with Conan O’Brien the reteamed to create the action figure based animated series Robot Chicken. The series ran for 11 seasons poking fun at pop culture, celebrities and everything in between. In addition to the main series, they also produced various specials including three Star Wars themed episodes.

Robot Chicken follows a mad scientist who finds a dead chicken in the road, and brings it back to life by turning it into half robot, half chicken. He tortures the robot chicken by showing a series of stop motion sketches of pop culture references, tv shows and movies, and real-life celebrities.
Throughout its run this series never failed to bring the laughs and thinks outside the box. I remember giving this show a chance when it first premiered and was hooked out of the gate. The show is hilarious and while it seems simple in the idea it is a genius piece of animation. The attention to detail and creative use of the figures in so many forms is brilliant. The show pulled no punches and hits every topic you can think of each funnier than the next.
This collection is fantastic, and I loved revisiting this brilliant iconic series that took a simple concept and made magic. It not only found its footing right away but managed to keep it fresh and fun throughout all 11 seasons and even more so with the specials. As a massive Star Wars fan, they are my obvious favorite with the standout character of the entire series for me being the nerd, an original character that made frequent appearances. His interaction dressed as a Taun Taun with George Lucas still cracks me up to this day.
The series not only used so many classic characters and their figures and
Claymation but managed to bring in a who’s who in voice work from the cast of Buffy, Star Wars, and so many more. These always added to the credibility of these versions of the characters but also made them so much more hilarious with them in on the joke and fun.
