I love documentaries especially ones about people trying to bring their dreams to life through art. The latest film Sam & Mattie Make A Zombie is just that as these two lifelong friends try to make their dream come true. Could the undead bring happiness and fulfill their dreams or will it fail to rise from the grave?

Sam & Mattie Make a Zombie Movie follows Sam & Mattie, two badass best friends with Down syndrome, who rally the entire town of Providence RI to help them storyboard, script, produce, cast, and star in their own dream movie. This 10+ year adventure shatters disability stereotypes, champions the independent spirit, features over 70 gallons of fake blood, and culminates in the ultimate payoff: presenting "Spring Break Zombie Massacre" in its entirety, to the public for the first time.

This is such an inspiring film in watching them work so hard to bring their unique vision to life. Thanks to their family and friends it became a journey that is not only amazing, but so much fun to be a part of. Sam and Mattie are the kind of guys that just put a smile on your face and you can’t help but root for them to succeed. Seeing everything they managed to do is just amazing. Of course they had plenty of help but it always felt that everyone around them wanted them to have their vision realized no matter how over the top or ridiculous it was.

As they moved along with this simple project it became so much more with a successful Kickstarter campaign, television interviews including on Conan and even getting one the Farrelly brothers on board to produce. As I watched this joyful and complicated project come to life all I wanted was to see the fully completed film in all its gory ridiculous glory. To my surprise we got just that with the entire film showcased during the documentary and it is all kinds of silly, bloody fun as expected.

While the focus of this documentary is them making their dream film there is so much more here in the end. The film is full of heart, laughs, emotion, love and dreams come true. There is a discussion at the end of the film after all is said and done to the true meaning of this journey and it is everything.

I loved this film and hope it finds the audience it deserves. Check out Sam & Mattie Make A Zombie Movie available now on digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon Video, VUDu and more from Gravitas Ventures.
