In 2002 audiences were introduced to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron that spawned a TV series on Netflix that debuted in 2017. Now they have brought together an all-new feature film with Spirit: Untamed featuring the voice talents of Isabela Merced, Marsai Martin, Mckenna Grace, Walton Goggins, Andre Braugher, Eiza González and Julianne Moore. Could this film bring something fresh to the franchise or will it be unable to be tamed?

Spirit: Untamed is an epic adventure about a headstrong girl,  Lucky Prescott, who is longing for a place to belong that discovers a kindred spirit when her life intersects with a wild horse named Spirit.

I found the look and feel of the movie to be super appealing.  I really enjoyed the variety of colors and scenery in this animated feature.  Additionally, the characters in the movie are very cute and all have a nice distinct look.  Our cast includes a variety of ethnicities and they were presented in somewhat typical clothing but it didn't come off overly stereotypical.

Our main character, Lucky, voiced by Isabela Merced is a head strong and adventurous girl.  Having grown up in a well to do household with her Aunt and Grandfather, she is taken to visit her father in the simple ranch town he lives in.  She begins to make new friends and discover the joy of horse riding.  Oddly enough, her mother was a very famous trick rider and the town seems to know all about Lucky.  As the story begins to unfold, we see many ways in which people deal with love and loss and this is ultimately the story between Lucky and Spirit.

Isabela Merced has quickly become one of my favorite people.  She brings such a youthful joy and innocence to this character and really draws you in.  Additionally, Jake Gyllenhaal's performance of Lucky's father, Jim, is very emotional and moving. I think we know he's a great actor, but that emotion

also comes through in his vocal performance.

If you or your child are a fan of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, or the Spirit TV show, this is a film you do not want to miss.  Additionally, if you're a fan of any of these amazing actors, you'll want to give this film a try.  I found it sweet and emotional and I may have shed a tear or two over the special bond shared between a girl and her horse.

In addition to the film this release offers up bonus content including deleted scenes, sing-along videos, featurettes and more. Grab your copy of Spirit: Untamed available now on Digital, Blu-ray & DVD from Universal Home Entertainment.
