The Closer:
The Complete Series
review by Drusilla Blakey

In 2005 Kyra Sedgwick came to TV for the TNT series The Closer that ran for seven seasons on the network. Upon the shows ending in 2012 it launched yet another series Major Crimes as a spin-off to the hit series. Now all seven series of the hit crime drama is coming home in one complete DVD Collection for the first time from Warner Bros Home Entertainment.
The Closer follows Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a top-notch detective who puts Los Angeles’ most brutal killers behind bars. Using her Keen instincts and brilliant interrogation techniques, Brenda can close a case by eliciting a confession or cornering a suspect through sometimes-questionable methods. With her offbeat personality, tough-as-nails approach and track record as one of the country’s leading investigators, the no-nonsense boss of the LAPD’s elite Priority Homicide Division will keep you hooked through all seven seasons.
I'd always thought about watching the TV show, The Closer, but for some reason never found the time. So, I was excited to dive into the new full series release. I love a good crime drama! I enjoy all the cop and legal shows, so I was really looking forward to this one. And it ended up being a very satisfying crime drama
driven almost entirely by Kyra Sedgwick’s unforgettable performance as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson. Her mix of razor‑sharp interrogation skills, disarming Southern charm, and unapologetic quirks makes every episode a delight. I especially love her famous line, "Thank you, thank you very much." hahaha Gives me Elvis vibes.
What really elevates the show is the ongoing fish out of water undercurrent with Brenda being a Georgia peach dropped into the hard edges of Los Angeles policing. Watching her navigate LAPD politics, cultural clashes, and her own stubborn streak is just as compelling as the cases she closes. As the series progresses, it also explores the personal cost of justice. Brenda’s victories come with consequences, and the show doesn’t shy away from showing how the weight of her work affects her life with Fritz.
The supporting cast is another major strength. Actors like J.K. Simmons, G.W. Bailey, Corey Reynolds, and Mary McDonnell (later in the series) bring depth and personality to the Major Crimes Division. Their chemistry creates a believable workplace family, full of friction, loyalty, humor, and heart. Even the recurring antagonists feel grounded and memorable.
But truly, the heart of the series is Brenda: brilliant, messy, relentless, deeply human and never without slightly too much red lipstick.
The Closer delivers tight cases, sharp writing, and a lead character who stays with you long after the credits roll. In addition to all 109 episodes across 7 seasons this release offers bonus content including Police Files: Unaired Scenes gag reels, featurettes, music videos and so much more.
