Back to the Outback         review by Bobby Blakey

Animated features are being released left and right on everything from the big screen, straight to home entertainment and streaming services. The latest Back to the Outback is coming to Netflix featuring an impressive voice cast including Isla Fisher, Tim Minchin, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Miranda Tapsell, Angus Imrie, Keith Urban, Aislinn Derbez, and Jacki Weaver. Could this flick bring the fun from the outback or will it fail to to justice to the land down under?

Back to the Outback follows a group of “deadly” animals (along with a celebrity koala named Pretty Boy) escape the Australian Wildlife Park and head back to the outback! I can honestly say I wasn’t overly interested in this one since more often than not these flicks miss the mark. After really enjoying The Mitchell’s vs the Machines on Netflix it got me hoping that maybe they could bring some other fun animated flicks to the service and what we got was Back to the Outback which is pretty fun overall.

The surface of the film is pretty simple and pretty by the numbers in execution so not breaking down any barriers in the industry. Even so it is filled with fun likeable characters and an entertaining adventure that is way more fun than I expected. The voice cast all do a great job with no one really standing out and instead the visuals are what really make this film step things up.

From the trailer I thought it was going to be that pre-school kid like animation, but after diving in realize I was way off base. There are some great character designs that make them recognizable as the animal or insect species, but also cute and personable. The colors are vibrant and a feat for the senses from beginning to end as it brings to life the Australian Outback.

This is a fun movie for the whole family that is worth checkout out. Decide for yourself and head down under with Back to the Outback streaming now on Netflix.
