Broad City: The Complete Series                     review by Bobby Blakey

Through the years Comedy Central has delivered some great shows including Inside Amy Schumer, South Park and Drawn Together. From 2014-2019 stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson brought their web series Broad City to the network for 5 seasons and featured numerous guest stars including  Fred Armisen, Amy Sedaris, Seth Rogen, RuPaul, Whoopi Goldberg, Seth Green, Tracee Ellis Ross, Hillary Clinton, Tony Danza, Wanda Sykes, and more. Now Comedy Central is bringing the complete series home for fans.

Broad City follows two women throughout their daily lives in New York City, making the smallest and mundane events hysterical and disturbing to watch all at the same time. I knew of this series and have enjoyed both of the ladies in other projects so was intrigued to see how this show played out and was not disappointed. There have been a ton of shows just about friends and their life adventures, but these ladies took it to a whole new level. Each episode pushed the boundaries of comedy and friendship through over the top situations. The zany comedy is smartly written in what appears to be simple stories arcs, but the creativity they use to tell their stories and clear willingness to go all in makes it stand out as something so much bigger.

With each season it takes them on varying real life type adventures infused with insanity and ridiculousness, but never loses the true element of the show their friendship. You can see their chemistry is real and it makes it all the better. You have no doubt watching these characters that they are all in no matter what for each other which is an element that is often missing from these kinds of shows. I loved this show from the first episode and was bummed that it only had five seasons. Thankfully they did a good job at wrapping it up with a pretty ingenious ending that was a perfect cap to the message of friendship and self-expression of the entire show.

In addition to the complete series this release also offers up bonus content including behind the scenes, making of featurette, and more that fans will no doubt love. Grab your copy of both Broad City: The Complete Series and Broad City: The Complete Fifth Season available now from Comedy Central and Paramount TV.
