The Return of the Living Dead 4K
                                     review by Bobby Blakey

Shout Factory continues to bring the horror classics home through their Scream Factory brand. The latest is the 1985 zombie sequel classic The Return of the Living Dead from director Dan O’Bannon. The film stars Clu Gulager, James Karen, Dan Calfa, Linnea Quigley, Brian Peck, Beverly Randolph, Allan Trautman and Miguel A. Nunez Jr. The film has had numerous releases, but now Scream Factory is bringing it to 4K for the first time ever.

The Return of the Living Dead follows a bumbling pair of employees at a medical supply warehouse who accidentally release a deadly gas into the air where the vapors cause the dead to re-animate as they go on a rampage through Louisville, Kentucky seeking their favorite food, brains.

I have always loved this movie in all its silly ridiculous cheesy glory. It takes a smart direction connecting itself to the original film while still being its own thing. It screams the 80s complete with the piercing and chain studded punk thugs and over the top acting. Everyone here had to be having a blast because they went all in with the cheese and it just adds to the fun and greatness of this flick.

One of the best things about this movie outside of all of the silliness is the great look of the zombies and animatronic style characters. The new take on the zombie is front and center here and they have crafted some great looks and moments throughout. Of them all the tar looking zombie and the half zombie on the operating table are the standouts and are both all kinds of awesome.

This isn’t one of the best zombie movies ever, but the history of the original infused into this fun flick along with it’s over the top craziness makes for a must have for any fan of the genre. This new 4K transfer looks outstanding and just further gives the proper look to all the work done to make this fun the fun zombie flick it is.

This release not only includes a new 4K scan (2022) from the original camera negative but comes loaded with bonus content including commentary, a still gallery, interviews and more. Loyal fans and collectors ordering from ShoutFactory.com will receive an exclusive rolled 18x24 poster featuring the original theatrical artwork, available while supplies last.
