            Justice League x RWBY:
Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part One                         review by Bobby Blakey

For years Warner Bros and DC Comics have been churning out some great animated features. Director Sam Liu is easily one of the most prolific directors of these films bringing us Batman: Killing Joke, The Death of Superman, Batman: Soul of the Dragon and more recently Batman: Doom Comes To Gotham.

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part One follows Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Vixen who are transported to the strange world of Remnant and find themselves turned into teenagers. Meanwhile, Remnant heroes Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang must combine forces with the Justice League to uncover why their planet has been mysteriously altered before a superpowered Grimm destroys everything.

Back in the day I used to watch some anime, but over the years kind of fallen out of the loop so admit I know nothing about RWBY outside of its existence and that they did a crossover comic series I believe. So heading into this new feature I was pretty in the dark about much of their back story and was concerned that I just wasn’t going to be able to connect to it because of it. Thankfully it is crafted to understand that fans of either property may be in the same boat and offer up enough info to make it work and get to know them all.

The film wastes no time jumping right into the thick of it all introducing some of the characters along with this new version of Superman. They took the opportunity here to create an elseworlds like story that can also work as a standard story with the alternate worlds travels. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the animation style this time around, but it works great and

brings a bright, vibrant tone to the overall visuals that looks really cool. I assume it is closer in tone to the RWBY world and offers them a chance to bring in new designs of the iconic DC Heroes and big props to some great looks and abilities.

The film offers up a decent enough story that makes sense to fuse them together while keeping the core of both worlds intact. There is no shortage of action throughout that is fun to watch and all the characters fuse well together to create something fresh new and familiar all at once. Obviously being labeled Part One there will be more to come and I am looking forward to seeing what they do in the next chapter. I hope they bring the RWBY characters over in the DC World to offer up a completely different look and feel that would be a great companion piece to this film and fun for fans.

In addition to the film this release offers up bonus content including featurettes taking you behind blending these franchises together as well as 2 bonus cartoons from the DC Vault.
