Last Girl Standing review by Bobby Blakey
I love horror films, but sadly the majority of them are a bit played out as they follow the same formula with few offering up anything that stands out. When I heard about Last Girl Standing I was a bit intrigued due to the direction it appears to take, but could it manage to be that one that stands out or will this girl be worth being the last one standing?

Last Girl Standing follows a masked killer who brutally murdered a group of friends five years earlier. Since then, Camryn, the lone survivor, has struggled to reclaim her shattered life. Wracked with guilt and paranoia, Camryn leads a depressingly lonely existence until Nick, a new co-worker, befriends her and attempts to integrate her into his group of friends. But just when she might be ready to start a new life, Camryn's past comes back to haunt her. Can she ever have a life again, or is she destined to be alone? I loved the idea of this film and for the most part it did not disappoint, but it isn’t without its flaws. The majority of the film limps along trying to build tension as this survivor struggles to pick up the pieces. Initially the film didn’t go in the direction I was hoping and instead seemed to just be about her making friends. Thankfully things start happening to her that leaves you questioning who is tormenting her and what is real and what is not.
There are some great ending twists that make up for a lot of the shortcomings of its build up and manages to take it in a direction that fully satisfies despite being pretty predictable from the beginning. Hardcore horror fans will be pleased with the gore level here despite it taking a while to really deliver. The performances are decent enough throughout but pretty much what you expect from this genre of film. In addition to the film this release includes numerous bonus features including commentary, a gag reel, trailer and numerous featurettes that take you further behind the film.
If you love a interesting twist on the slasher genre, then give this film a chance and decide for yourself with Last Girl Standing available now from MPI Home Video.
